I love this song and have had it on repeat all week long thinking about passion and whatnot. I think it's a good representation that pairs with this post - so if you are a multitasker, press play and continue on down.
My cutie boyfriend and I were discussing what we look for in relationships. The topic of passion came up for both of us – as that is pretty needed for a lasting relationship in both of our opinions. I actually didn’t realize how strongly I felt about this until just recently so it’s funny it came up between us so soon. What I mean is not that I’m not passionate about anything – I am – what I mean is that more so in friendships/relationships/whatever – having a passion holds itself pretty close to my heart for that connection to grow and be substantial. So, me being the freak I am, have been dissecting this thought over the past few weeks to find out why passion is so prominent in what I look for in others. I think I have some logical responses that imma share with you butts today.
!!!WHY PASSION IS A NECESSITY!!!
Most think that money CAN buy everything – and to a point – they are absolutely correct. It can solve many problems but only to a point. A study was actually conducted recently across the United States and the “cap” for happiness as far as a monetary value is making $75,000 a year. That doesn’t sound like much, right? I feel like it’s not but when I think about it – that is pretty, pretty, pretty good (Larry David FTW) I’d be living a comfortable life with no financial stress with that amount, for sure. I know we all dream about being billionaires but realistically – making $75K per year for the next fifty years sounds damn good for me. Anyway – money caps out your emotional well being eventually. SCIENCE PROVES IT. Money fades, passion shouldn’t. You can be homeless with no material items but still carry a passion that makes you happier then any drone millionaire corporate worker. (dumb reference because some of those drones are the happiest they’ll be. But if you’re an artist like I am – it’s a relatable reference I believe.) Working a job you hate, even if it pays for you to live a celeb status life, will wreck you down the road. You’ll wake up one morning hating yourself because when it comes down to it – yes prepare for this corny quote – it IS on what’s on the inside that counts. Not which generation phone you have, not which TV is in your living room, not how many yachts you own (although that’s pretty cool if you even own one), not how many Versace bags you can buy in one sitting……but if you are content with the kind of person you are.
On a similar note, people can fade from your life pretty easily as well – just like cash. Nobody is 100% reliable, unfortunately, when it comes to yourself except for, well, YOU. You need to be your rock and becoming a strong person stems from having passion. It’s what will get you out of bed each morning. It’s what will keep you always wanting to learn more and go further despite your last greatest achievement. Other people can certainly aid to your happiness, but they should never be the sole source of it. That’s not how a healthy life operates – you need to be able to look in the mirror and like what you see. Passion is probably 80% of this becoming reality! Investing yourself entirely into something will make you so much more content with whatever place in life you are at. To tell a small personal story – passion is what has me alive right now. No exaggeration. I shouldn’t be here and who knows what the future brings – but I know my positive mindset and passionate energy have taken me to where I am now: a place of fairly pure happiness when it comes to myself. I definitely will always have areas to work on, clearly, but I’m not miserable at all – to say the least. Hardships still are prominent in my life, as they are for you too, but having passion gets me through those rough patches as smoothly as you can trek through rocky times. Passion is a mesmerizing feeling. Passion is an untouchable flame that can burn forever. Your passion can carry on for ages to come. It survives even what we can’t – death.
At this point in reading you may be sitting there thinking, “I can’t just give up everything to follow my dream of being a professional yo-yo hip hop dancing astronaut bunny”. I am not telling you to do that, ya drama queen. I am saying it generally takes a lot of time and self discipline to not only remain passionate but to see the results of true passion as well. Yes, there are some people that get that “quick fix miracle” whether through a YouTube video that goes viral unexpectedly, hitting the lotto, or being born into a celebrity family. That is a minuscule group of people though so don’t compare yourself to that – be real. Yeah, I have to work an office job too but my passion for the artistic field shines through at work so that it’s enjoyable. My passion in other areas of life make me strive at my office job and succeed at it too. My passion helps me in every other aspect of my life. Obviously you may not want to be at your current job forever but need it to make end’s meet – that’s the case for most adults in case you didn’t know. Make your drab job turn into something worth experiencing by finding a way to carry a passion from another compartment of your life into it. Morph that drab job into a stepping stone that’ll bring you to your true passion someday – don’t have a pity party by yourself about how you can’t get a better job. Do you even know what you would consider to be a better job besides not wanting to work and get paid $1M a year? No? Well then you can’t really complain now can you? No, the answer is no, you can’t.
Passion leads to expanding your mind and allows you to crave learning new things. It’s always a win/win/win (The Office FTW - so many quotes today) situation. It can lead to better health - I.E. me! My health is total crap but I make the absolute most of it with my passion because my passion gives me a terrific mindset to take on head first the obstacles I face each day as far as my health goes. Mentally, passion has put me in a very good place and will only continue to do so in the future too. Passion definitely makes you develop a good “snap back” type of reaction to have when life throws monkey turds at you. Nobody’s life is perfect so you do need to be prepared for those monkey turd days. They’ll probably happen a lot. I give into those days at times, I won’t lie. But my mindset, thanks to passion, has led me to develop a fairly stone-like structure that stands against terrible situations that are pretty regularly occurring in my life. It’s a skill we all need and want – and passion can help you achieve that! Art has saved me. When I’m feeling depressed or anything like that – I can escape through my passion in the arts. It’s self healing and allows me to move past those dark days. It can do that for you too!
There are no dumb passions. A lot of us hear that word, "passion", and are intimidated if our passion doesn’t happen to be a crime fighting-award winning-life saving doctor. That’s not true at all though! If your passion is knitting socks for cats (KITTEN MITTENS FTW, okay I'm done, I swear) – that’s awesome. Line up those felines and get to work. Invest in that passion and start an Etsy shop or something. Or do what you do when you can't do anything else - blog about it. I don’t know but you get the idea -- I’m assuming. Don’t be intimidated by having an unpopular passion. I mean, if your passion is murdering children, maybe you should keep that passion locked away – as I’m sure you already do in a shed in the forest. Within most cases, though, embrace what you orgasm over doing. As I said earlier, results typically don’t happen overnight so don’t let that exhaust you. If you are truly giddy doing whatever it is you may love – dive in full force and make your dreams happen. Dreams can actually come true as long as you have your good pal, passion, by your side.
Passion can lead to new experiences such as traveling. Traveling is important I hear for our well being and spiritual energy and shit like that – and I have never met someone that says “ I want to never see the world." If the opportunity presents itself realistically – you would take a trip to Ireland for two weeks. You would! Passion allows you to put yourself out there as far as meeting other people who share your passion – so this gets you to socialize. Socializing is kind of imperative to not letting your crippling depression fall completely into you and envelope your soul. I hate human interactions at times, let’s be clear here, but when I’m talking to others who love the crap I do – I don’t dread it as much. It turns into a fun conversation and connection that is genuine instead of fake small talk we force upon others at times because we feel obligated.
Owning your passion inspires others - even if their passion is not your own preference. I love reading / watching about what others dedicate their life to. It's fascinating and gives me even more passion for myself! It's contagious, to keep this point terse.
What are you passionate about? It’s okay if you don’t know as of today – there’s always time to figure it out. But do not cave into what others tell you you should be doing. Don’t cave into being embarrassed for following your dreams. Don’t cave into any of that bullshit. You do what you love and fuck the rest (YAS LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE YAS – I’m obviously not creative enough to end on my own, original note. & I'm a big liar because I used another quote after saying I'm done. Sorry brah)
SHOW OF THE WEEK
Billy Joel – eeeeeeeee! I am still swooning three days later. I played piano for almost twenty years and who was responsible for my inspiration to start? Billy Joel! I love him. I’ve listened to him as long as my investment in being RHCP’s #1 groupie has been. Billy Joel is so talented and holds a special place in my heart so the fact that he was in San Diego is an experience I could not turn away. I had pretty rad seats as far as the sound goes and it flew by. I was grinning the whole damn time like a total dork and dancing around like the rest of the 50+ year olds there. I even bought a t-shirt. I went all out. The performance was incredible and unforgettable. The only thing I want to forget is the fact Jason Mraz came out during the encore set and totally ruined it. (Obviously I really love Jason Mraz.) But – it was solid nonetheless. Billy Joel is a gem of a talent and I suggest you go see him if he’s coming to your town soon!
MOVIE OF THE WEEK
Green Room. When I first saw the preview for this film – I was very confident this would be one hell of a movie. As always, I was right. Yeah, I'm not stubborn and I am never wrong either.A punk band getting trapped/tortured by a group of skinheads? Patrick Stewart playing the head honcho of a neo-Nazi skinhead bar? It was alljust.... breathtaking. Sir Patrick nailed it and was so convincing. I won’t give any spoilers cause I’m not that much of a jerk but this film is astounding. I may have to go see it again! It’s a tremendously wonderful psychological horror/thriller film with a truly one of a kind plot – which is one of the reasons I loved it so much too. It was not a cookie cutter version of anything and was totally original. I tend to pick apart a lot of things these days by comparing them to other similar projects – but I couldn't with this!
AMBIEN ETSY PURCHASES OF THE WEEK
The Ambien walrus struck again and the other day in the mail I received some laptop accessories that I totally ordered on Ambien a few weeks ago. I love Etsy – it’s a place I can lose a good four hours of my life to. I guess I really did lose an evening via Etsy because I can’t recall buying these cute things, but here they are at my house - unpackaged and in my nicely manicured hands. The case (pictured below) is super good quality – I actually thought it was a skin so I was extremely stoked to see it being this material! I'm not a fan of skins - they are hard to remove and usually don't offer that much protection. The keyboard cover (also pictured below) is taking a lot of getting used to, but I like that it just lays over the keys in case I get tired of it. I ordered many decals as well apparently (After receiving the case I had to go see what else I bought by accident) they are all pretty, "geeky" so I'll show you them stuck on my MacBook when they arrive. Ambien just has no consequences, right? Only fun surprises in the mail - not heart attacks or death or unsafe hallucinations

Oooh la la, so fancy, so vibrant - AMIRITE? How perfectly magical is my latest and first leg tattoo? Obviously it's No-Face as a mermaid from Spirited Away - one of the best movies ever ever ever. Melvin Arizmendi did this (duuuh!) and you should check out her work! She is a true pastel and glitter stuffed genius. I blindly trust her with anything she ever wants to create. No questions asked.
