Valentines Day is in ONE WEEK – a lot of you are probably freaking the heck out due to all of the pressure of this romantic occasion. Well – stop it. There’s no need to give into the pressure that really should not be there in the first place, sillies. I personally enjoy Valentines Day, being single or not, because it’s a day to be extra cute and shower those you truly love with affection! But, society has placed such high standards on this simple day that many of us find ourselves caught in a web of romantic gestures and wanting to outshine each gesture that we come up with. I’m here to tell you to relax – it’s simple to have a memorable Valentine’s Day. This week I am here to discuss some different things you can do for your significant other to create a magical experience – without sweating it.
There are a few ways that you can approach Valentines Day. It all really depends on your budget and what you can afford. If you’re like me, and are not the richest person (YET), you will want to be a tad more savvy with your planning. So let me tell you about this route first, because I feel like a lot of us are in that same boat – not a yacht – but a little rowboat of living paycheck to paycheck.
I am a firm believer in both parties of a relationship partaking in Valentines Day if your duo is a fan of the holiday. It’s completely idiotic to believe in that traditional standard of a guy needing to spoil their woman and not have that be a two way street! I love spoiling B – on the 14th of February and any other day. If you don’t think you should be spoiling your man but expect to be treated like a Princess – you need to step back and reevaluate the crown you picture yourself wearing. You need to be the Princess, but a Princess needs her Prince, right?
On the budgeted end of celebrating Valentines Day, there are seriously thousands of romantic options!
I’ll let you know, in detail, my plans and then list off some other ideas that would be super sweet to encompass your boo with. This year, I went to Michael’s to prepare for the 14th. I don’t really want to go out this year since I don’t have my Disney pass at the moment (April, when will you be here?! That’s when I can renew my pass without having to turn off the water at my apartment.) so my tolerance for large crowds is low. Going out to dinner or anywhere really on that night sounds like I’ll be having a nice mixture of panic and anxiety attacks all evening – that’s no fun so here we are with an evening inside with my three wonderful cats and my booberry. I decided that we could do a craft together, so I bought two artistic activities for us to indulge in for the night! We love doing creative projects together so I picked something fairly simple for V-day. I don’t want to spoil it for B so pictures will follow next week. But I will say that all together this project was $10 and is a crap ton of fun! As far as a gift gift, I didn’t spend more than $15. I chose a theme before shopping – and again I don’t want to spoil it – but I chose two huge franchises that B is utterly obsessed with. I filled a bag with literally anything I could find between two stores with any item that had these two franchises printed on them. I know he will love it! An example for you all to describe a little more what I am talking about is if you’re gal loves Hello Kitty and Harry Potter – go to the 99c store and Target and fill your cart with any little thing that has Hello Kitty or Harry Potter on it!: pens, folders, playing cards, candy, videos, books, tshirts, ect. Obviously, if you have a budget, don’t go too crazy, but you catch my drift – I think. You readers are smart, right? I mean you’ve read this far so I’m going to assume you’re intelligent to some extent. Other than the craft and a bag of goodies, I picked out a quirky card that I’m going to write a very loving message in. If you’re not one for words – don’t feel pressured! Find a card that has the message in there already. If you ARE one for words, find a piece of stationary with cute cover art and write a love letter to your Valentine. I also bought two foam hearts, stickers, glitter and markers so that we can make each other classic, traditional Valentine Day cards – this was actually something B really wanted to do so kudos to him for the idea! The reason I didn’t plan a FULL evening of romance is because I know B has some surprises planned too – so I want to make sure we can balance both of our ideas for the night.
On the cheaper side, some other things you can do are:
Dinner + a movie = classic and a never fail option. To amp it up a little, perhaps try finding a new theater that is of “higher class” ie has alcohol, reclining leather chairs, dinner served to you, ect ect. Or try a drive in!
Build a fort, buy an enormous ton of tasty snacks, a bottle of wine and watch Netflix = a cozy evening. Don’t forget to put a neat light in your fort like a black light or something else Spencer’s sells- trust me it really changes the atmosphere!
Picnic at midnight – if your car has a large enough trunk for two people to comfortably lay down and nom on some grub – pack up the car with blankets, a light, (similar to the light you should use in your fort), a picnic basket full of: wine, cheese, peanuts, and fruit (or whatever your stomach is craving), drive to your local lake, beach, what have you, and have an intimate night of indulgence under the moonlight.
Laser tag / mini golf / go karting / arcade = this is pretty self-explanatory! There are places that incorporate all of these things for about $20/person. It’s a blast and you will definitely have a fun Valentines Day.
If you are a baller and have some money burning a hole in your pocket, you can take a totally different path with how to spoil your man or woman next Sunday:
Go to a five star restaurant, order a bottle of the not $10 wine that I normally get, and have a serene, dressed up night out. Remember to make reservations!
Jewelry, jewelry, jewelry, jewelry…..JEWLERY. You can never go wrong with a beautiful necklace, ring, bracelet, pair of earrings – whatever! This is a classic gift that pairs well with flowers and chocolate. Well, let’s face it, flowers and chocolate pair well with any dang gift.
Each of you in the couple should buy the other a head to toe outfit to wear for the evening – then go out to show off what you were given! Go dancing, to be a little more specific.
Visit a new area in your state and book a fancy hotel room! Explore a new area and go all out. Order room service, dine in a brand new restaurant, walk on the beach / frolic through the mountains (area depending), and do tourist-y things offered in that town.
There are countless ways to have a good Valentines Day. The main point I wanted to make is that it’s not WHAT you do, it’s who you’re with that makes it a great time. If you are truly happy and in love – then there should be no pressure on this one day of the year. It should be exciting and fun to plan something out. Everyday should be Valentines Day between you and your crush/partner. I know that it’s been almost two years of dating for B and I, but we are still spoiling each other whenever possible and never forget to show affection. If you are waiting only for one day of the year to say, “I love you” to your family members, significant other, friends, ect – you are doing something wrong. Actually you are doing a whole lot wrong. This is just a day to embellish on the norm – but don’t let it get to your head. If there is some sort of lovely thought behind what you end up doing, then it will be perfect – trust me on that! If you are in search of some gifts, down below are some goodies for the fellow nerd in your life from Think Geek. Let me know what you are doing for Cupid’s day this year, thanks for reading and as always - #staynerdy!

NAILS OF THE WEEK
I always get my nails done with an almond shape and usually get some type of glittery obnoxiousness on top. I went with the most beautiful pearl-like color for this month! I was going to do pink originally for V-tines day...but then I felt too cliché. So white it is! I am obsessed with these nails - they are so cute and b0$$
APP OF THE WEEK
I finally began working out again this past weekend - it feels great! I'm sore but I feel good. I am terrible at running - I get so bored of it. Thanks to...Wil Wheaton...(are you surprised?) I stumbled upon a workout routine app called Zombies, Run! It's PERFECT. If you like videogames where missions need to be accomplished in order to move forward and a pretty solid storyline - this will be your new best friend. I ran for 36 minutes on my first mission. In case you didn't read the title, it's a zombie themed application so you are working with a team of individuals who are at a headquarters while you are "the runner" gathering supplies, scouting new locations, and all that fun stuff that comes with the apocalypse. I didn't even feel like I was working out, I felt like a badass rebel running for my life to save humanity. I also enjoy it because it doesn't force you to maintain a certain pace to accomplish missions, just keep moving as you see fit and you will progress. I guarantee if you are a fan of zombies, gaming, or both - your workout will never be the same.
HAUL OF THE WEEK
Have you heard of Plato's Closet? It's a lovely little shop that has been expanding recently. You can sell and buy gently used, stylish clothes! It's a complete hit or miss, but last night for B and I - it wasHIT! I bought: a pale pink sheer dress, a nude/lace bralette, a maroon knit beanie, a black beanie, a pair of daisy floral earrings, a high waistedthick polka dot skirt, a fitted sweater that says "Pug Life" (essentials, right?), a Bart Simpson tight fitted skirt, and a loose/thin baseball tee that is striped. Such a good trip! I spent less then $60 for all of this. I'm a happy camper and if you have a Plato's Closet close to you - check it out. You can make some very quick cash for your lightly used closed and then find absolute steals on brand names! Guilt free shopping at its finest.
