Scrolling through my social media recently, I have seen a lot of people post statuses asking for show suggestions for them to watch. I thought it’d be fun to share with the web the shows I’ve been obsessing over recently and past shows that I can never get enough of.
Let’s start off with current television I am drooling over. I’ve been into a lot of competitive shows recently, like Master Chef Junior.
Master Chef Junior
is basically the same as the adult version, Master Chef. If you don’t know what that is, I’ll fill you in. This competition show is about children between the ages of six and thirteen who have a passion for cooking and baking. Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich host/judge this series. I have crushes on all three in their own way. Gordon is a hilarious, straightforward, and handsome chef who is known internationally for how he has mastered the culinary world. Graham is a world renown chef as well and Joe is a business man who owns various dining establishments and is the son of acclaimed chef Lidia Bastianich. The pint sized chefs must compete in flash and major challenges to showcase their unique skills and ability to work under pressure. These kids are amazing and actually made me want to take up cooking! The downside to this show is probably that these preteens make me feel like I should have amounted to so much more at age 23….so extreme jealousy is definitely a side effect from watching. It’s also a tad corny but it’s aimed at kids so I guess positivity has to be a major factor. Nonetheless, it’s a rad show that is uplifting. Compared to the adult show, it’s refreshing seeing how well these kids act as “opponents”. They all become friends and do not sabotage one another. They help each other out in times of need and do not gossip. What?! A reality show WITHOUT gossip? How will we ever survive?!
Next up is
This is a show I’ve been itching to watch since its release in 2009. I knew I would probably enjoy it based solely on the previews I used to see on Adult Swim. Recently, Hulu has started airing commercials for the latest season, six, while I’ve been using the app. I’m watching it all the way through and am only at the end of season 1. So far, it’s really great. I love the way they animate using real world textures partially and normal 2D the rest of the time. The humor is right on point to mine – which is a mixture of sarcasm, cruelness, and just all around inappropriate at times. This show centers around the company ISIS in New York. Sterling Archer is the main character. He’s a suave, sophisticated super spy. He’s pretty conceited but I guess he has reason to be, huh? His mother, Malory Archer, runs the business and is an alcoholic, distant mother to say the least. She’s one of my favorite characters though with her dry, stale humor. The other superstar agent in the show is Lana Kane, who also happens to be Archer’s ex. They are (in my eyes) lovers who are destined to be together again. Lana is a sexy, sassy and independent woman. She always has the last word and never fails to have a strong opinion. I’m only at season one, so *
* she is dating Cyril Figgis who is the accountant or something like that at ISIS. They definitely do not belong together because they are complete opposites, and not in that chemistry type of way. He is very boring by standard and nerdy. Lana seems to only be dating him to annoy Archer. I love this show so far and can’t stop watching. I’m glad it got renewed for a 6
season so I can keep going for a while. If you’re a fan of most Adult Swim shows, you will definitely be on board with Archer.
RuPaul’s Drag Race
is my final show that I'm currently watching each week. It’s finally back on! I love, love, love, LOVE this show. It’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s a competition in which drag queens of all ages from all over compete to be the next one on Top. (Pun….intended.) They have to put together themed runway walks each week and also compete in mini competitions to gain the lead for main challenges. It’s extremely entertaining and always features an amazing guest judge that you’re bound to recognize and fan girl over. Of course, RuPaul hosts the show and that’s reason enough to watch. The music, entertainment, drama, fashion, out of the box challenges and critiques make this show kickass. It never fails to build you up too while you watch, with its message of being yourself and owning everything you do no matter who tries to put you down.
Those are probably my top 3 shows that I’ve been watching that are new for me this March. Here are my top five all-time favorite series that I could go brain dead by watching so often:
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Curb Your Enthusiasm
American Dad / Family Guy
My all time favorites deserve a post all to their own someday. I just wanted to share. What shows are you starting right now? What are your guilty pleasures for reality competitive shows? What shows are your most favorite that you can just never get enough of? Don’t forget to #staynerdy and comment with your faves, suggestions, or whatever!
