Hobbies: My Collections

Everyone needs a hobby, right? I have a lot of hobbies! As you probably know, gaming is one of them. BUT I have tons of interests besides that! One of them is collecting various things. Collecting has been a favorite thing of mine since...well when I got started as a little girl. Since the only family I had was kind of psychotic, one can assume I did not experience most things that children do. But - I had an elderly neighbor who was never married with no children. I would always go over her house & she had lots of collections: beanie babies, Cherished Teddies, Precious Moments, and so much more. She started me off with my first collection: Cherished Teddies. She then got me hooked onto the beanie baby fad too. After I started earning cash at my first job, I branched off into my own collections. I was able to bring most of them with me when I moved to California: PEZ dispensers, M&M's, Hello Kitty, Japanese fans & keychains.

Really bizarre fact : I HATE PEZ candy... but have always loved collecting the dispensers. I have been since I can remember. I couldn't really pick a favorite dispenser if you asked me to. I love them all!

I became obsessed with M&M's when I was very, very young. They were my first candy & I enjoyed the characters that corresponded with the little shelled chocolates. I'm a pretty picky candy-eater, but I can never pass up on M&M's. Any kind too! My absolute favorite character is actually a tie between Blue & Crispy (The orange one) Not pictured is a lava lamp I have & a gigantic Orange plush. How can you not think all the characters are so cute?! Have you not seen their hilarious commercials?! Or even tasted an M&M?

My largest collection is probably this one. My keychains. They are cheap & you can find them everywhere. Anytime I'm someplace new, if I have the spare cash I will grab a new keychain. I started my keychain collection probably when I was in fourth grade. A friend went on a trip & brought me one back. Then, my elementary school would give out keychains for free at various functions. I love looking at all the places people I know have been or that I have had the opportunity to visit. It's like a huge cluster of memories.

The last two collections I'm going to show are not nearly as large as the first three. They are my Japanese fan collection & Hello Kitty. The fans are very hard to find! I found the two flowered ones at a thrift store & through my Nintendo reward points I chose the other two Mario ones. I love everything about Japan, and always have. So fans are kind of a big thing culturally there. They are so elegant and beautiful. Speaking of Japan, Hello Kitty is also a -fairly- well known character from there. I remember getting a Hello Kitty coloring book from a friend probably in first grade - & I fell in LOVE! I only have a few plushies and nick nacks though.

Before moving to CA, a lot of my belongings were destroyed. I also had a Barbie collection, beanie baby collection, tea set collection & Cherished Teddy collection. I'd love to start them up again!

What's

one of your hobbies? Hobbies have always been a fantastic distraction for me. I'm a kid at heart, so collecting these silly things makes me feel like I'm living the childhood I didn't get to have. They keep me occupied & I love showing them off to new friends! It's also fun to remember what the circumstance was for each piece in my collections. Comment with what you like to do with your spare time & why!
